T’puram: Kerala Students Union (KSU) March in the Government Law College on Wednesday in protest against the attack on its leaders Thiruvananthapuram They turned violent as they clashed with the police on Tuesday.
The KSU took out a march to the assembly demanding the arrest of the SFI activists who attacked the KSU leaders, including a woman leader. The police had put up barricades to stop the march on the martyr pillar. However, the activists tried to break these barricades and got into a heated argument with the police.
During the march, KSU workers destroyed all flex boards of the government and CPM. They tore all the flex boards containing the CM’s pictures. Police used water cannons to disperse the activists. Later the students started pelting stones at the police and in return the police had to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd.
Youth Congress state president and MLA Shafi Parambil and KSU state president KM Abhijeet reached the spot and pacified the workers. Later, the police arrested the protesters and chased them away.
Three KSU workers and an SFI activist were injured in a clash that broke out between two student unions at the Government Law College on Tuesday evening. KSU unit president Safna Yakub was attacked by SFI activists inside the premises. Along with him, unit general secretary Ashiq Ashraf and another worker Nitin Thampi were injured and all three were admitted to the Medical College Hospital. SFI worker Ananthu was also injured in the attack and he is also admitted in the Medical College Hospital.
