Kovid vaccination of children in the age group of 12-14 starts from tomorrow

The health ministry said the decision to introduce vaccination for the 12-14 age group was taken after consultations with scientific bodies.

The government on Monday said that the Kovid-19 vaccination of children of 12-14 years will start from Wednesday.

All those born in 2008, 2009 and 2010 are given the names of Hyderabad based Biological E.V.

The health ministry said the decision to introduce vaccination for the 12-14 age group was taken after consultations with scientific bodies.

Biologicals E had obtained Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the drug regulator for its COVID-19 vaccine for the 12-18 age group on February 21. The central government had made an advance payment of Rs 1,500 crore in June 2021 to reserve 30 crore doses of Corbevax, the country’s first indigenously developed receptor binding domain protein sub-unit vaccine against Covid-19.

Corbevax has also been approved for testing in children up to 5 years of age.

Corbevax is administered via the intramuscular route with two prescribed doses for 28 days and is stored at 2-8°C. It is available in packs of 0.5 ml (single dose), 5 ml (10 dose) vial and 10 ml (20 dose) vial.

Children over the age of 14 are already being vaccinated. The government has so far given 9.01 crore doses of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin in the 15-17 age group.
