Kovid vaccination for children likely to start from August: Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya

New Delhi: In another boost to the country’s vaccination campaign, the government may start vaccinating children against Covid-19 from August, news agency ANI quoted Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya as saying on Tuesday in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentary constituency. During the meeting, which was also attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mandaviya also said that India is on its way to become one of the largest vaccine producing countries as more companies are in line to get production licenses.

The health minister’s statement comes a week after All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) director Dr Randeep Guleria said that Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin trial on children was underway and the figures are expected by September.

At present, the trial of Covaxin is going on in Delhi AIIMS on children of 2-6 years.

“Vaccines should be available for children in the coming few weeks or by September. Then we should start school in a systematic manner as we are doing from the age of 18-45 and this will give more protection and more confidence to the child People will get that children are safe,” Dr Guleria had said.

According to reports, the trial of Covaxin in children is being done in three phases, in which children are divided into categories according to their age.

The first trial was started in the age group of 12-18 years, followed by the age group of 6-12 years and 2-6 years, who are currently undergoing trials.

Even pharma giant Zydus Cadila, which is developing the country’s first DNA-based vaccine, has ended its trials for the 12-18 age group and subject to statutory provisions, the Center claimed. Vaccine may be available in near future.

Meanwhile, even as the US government plans to introduce COVID-19 vaccines for children under 12 soon, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has asked vaccine makers Pfizer and Moderna. has requested that they expand the size of their testing on coronavirus shots to include several thousand schools. – aged children before seeking authorization.
