COVID-19: Thirty-seven inmates of Beur Central Jail tested positive for the coronavirus on Tuesday, officials said. The mass testing was ordered after a prisoner tested positive for the virus last week.
“Ex-MLA Ranveer Yadav had developed symptoms. Rapid antigen test report was positive. Following this, mass testing was ordered. On Saturday and Sunday, over 800 inmates underwent RT-PCR test. The report came out yesterday. , out of which 37 tested positive”, the jail superintendent told PTI.
Kumar said the former MLA has since been shifted to a hospital, while other inmates who tested positive have been kept in an isolation ward inside the jail.
Over 100 cases are being reported in the state for the last few days, of which more than half are in the capital district. According to the Health Department, the state’s active caseload had reached 774 on Monday.

India on Tuesday registered 11,793 new cases of the novel coronavirus with 27 deaths due to the infection. According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry, a total of 9,486 discharges took place in the country in the last 24 hours, taking the overall recovery rate to around 98.57 per cent and the total recovery data to 4,27,97,092. The total active cases of COVID-19 in India has risen to 96,700, data from the Ministry of Health showed today.
