Mandya: In yet another cluster outbreak at an educational institution, 27 students of a college in Nagamangala town Mandya District tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday, and district health officials have asked the college to be closed for a week.
Doctor Dhananjay, the district health officer, said that his staff is conducting random tests in schools and colleges for early detection and involvement of the Covid-19 infection among students, which came to the fore in the cluster.

Dhananjay said, “We immediately got all 450 students tested for COVID-19 and 27 were found infected.” He said the college would be allowed to reopen after a week, but it would depend on the situation then.
“All the infected students were asymptomatic and there was no indication that they were carrying the virus,” he said. “We have sanitized the college premises and are keeping a close watch on all the students. We have asked parents to report changes in their children’s health immediately.”
The outbreak has, apparently, caused some panic among parents, many of whom are now confused whether to send their children for on-campus classes. “We are in crisis as a large number of children appear to be picking up the infection,” said SoumyaA housewife and mother of two children in Keregodu village. “Also, we cannot keep them at home without education. We don’t know what to do.”
