After the success of Squid Game, Netflix is coming up with another Korean thriller My Name. Revolving around the story of a woman who avenges her father’s death, the trailer of the series showcases some intense action-packed scenes and stylish action choreography executed smoothly by the cast. Ahead of its October 15 release, the actors and director opened up on their efforts to improve the visuals in a press conference.
Talking about the most interesting part of the story, actor Park Hee-soon says, “When you think of dark noir it is very manly to speak. This is the world of men. So when I read My Name, I thought it was very original because the lead role is female and all those complex emotions that come from watching her story as well as the very dynamic characters that we get to see, I I can feel the passion and the heat. In the story. There was a lot of hot blood at the bottom of the story that we haven’t seen before.”
Taking a different route from his previous characters, Han So Hee will assume a completely new avatar for My Name as his character infiltrates the police force to avenge his father’s death. Giving details about her role, she said that her character Yun Ji Woo is desperate for revenge as she killed her father at a very young age.
However, delivering those fight sequences smoothly was not an easy task for the Money Flower actress. So Hi, who described his action sequences as ‘life’ as the characters put their lives on the line, said, “At first, I thought I’d be able to do it easily, so I attended action school and class. So there I realized that it takes a lot of time. And it’s not just me doing it alone, I have to do a good choreography with my partner in every scene so that there is pressure and I don’t have to hurt anyone all the time. Don’t worry. It was quite challenging.
His co-star Hee Soon said, “Our actions don’t rely on wires or computer graphics. It was the first time it was done and it was really emotionally charged.”
Director Kim Jin-min also paid special attention to the extreme scenes performed by his cast, as he was praised by all. The extracurricular fame filmmaker also gave a shout out to his martial arts directors and stunt doubles for the smooth execution of the series.
He added to the discussion, “I am thankful to the martial arts directors and stunt doubles who took the trouble to make the actors comfortable in all the scenes. They did an amazing job of making the scenes safe and doable and made sure that No one gets hurt as 99% of the action was done by all the actors themselves. I can really be proud of My Name, the fact that they probably did more than any other action/adventure movie you’ve seen before Percent action taken.”
