Kolkata Police issues look out circular against former BJP leader Nupur Sharma

New Delhi: Kolkata Police has issued a look out circular against suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma for making controversial remarks against Prophet Mohammad. The former BJP spokesperson was earlier asked to appear before Amherst and Narkeldanga police stations, however, she failed to appear and sought more time citing security threat. The development comes after the Supreme Court reprimanded Nupur Sharma for her objectionable remarks against the Prophet. On Friday, the top had come down heavily on Sharma, saying his “loose tongue” had “set the entire country on fire” and said he was “singlely responsible for what is happening in the country”. The court also observed that the comments were made either for cheap publicity, political agenda or for some nefarious activities.

Vacation Bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice JB Pardiwala refused to entertain Sharma’s plea to club the FIR Cases were registered against him in various states for his remarks and allowed him to withdraw the petition. “These comments are very disturbing and smell of arrogance. What is their job to make such remarks? These comments have caused unfortunate incidents in the country. These people are not religious. They have no respect for other religions. These comments were made for cheap publicity or for political agenda or some other nefarious activities”, the bench said, according to PTI.

Nupur Sharma created a ruckus in a TV debate with her controversial statements against the Prophet. His remarks sparked violent protests in some states and several Gulf countries also reacted sharply. The BJP had distanced itself from Sharma and suspended him from the party.

Further, following the apex court’s remarks, Delhi Police on Friday said that it had issued notice to Nupur Sharma on June 18 and questioned her on the same day for hurting religious sentiments.
