After several days of intensive searches, Raipur Police on Thursday picked up Kalicharan from Bageshwar Dham, about 25 km from Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh and brought it to Raipur by road. However, the arrest has sparked a political uproar. The BJP has condemned the arrest and alleged that the Chhattisgarh Police violated the inter-state protocol and did not take the Madhya Pradesh Police into confidence.
