KL Rahul confirmed on Friday afternoon that he will not take part in next month’s ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. The right-handed Indian batsman had suffered a thigh injury in game no. 43 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), which ruled him out for the rest of the season. Rahul said through a social media post that he will undergo surgery which will prevent him from traveling to London with Team India in June.

In a long post, Rahul expressed his sadness at not being with his team in the ongoing IPL 2023 and the Indian team at The Oval next month.

“After careful consideration and consultation with the medical team, it has been concluded that I will be undergoing surgery on my thigh shortly. My focus will be on my rehabilitation and recovery in the coming weeks. This is a difficult decision, but I know That is the right thing to do to ensure full recovery.

“As the captain of the team, it pains me not to be there during this crucial period. But, I am sure the boys will rise to the occasion and give their best as always. I will be cheering them on from the sidelines, watching every game, along with all of you. @lucknowsupergiants

He said, ‘Absolutely disappointed that I will not be at The Oval with Team India next month. I will do everything to come back in blue and help my country. This has always been my focus and priority. @indiancricketteam,” he said.

Rahul further thanked his teammates, fans and the BCCI for supporting him in testing times.

“I would like to express my gratitude to each and every one of you – my fans, who gave me the strength to get back up, the LSG management and the BCCI for their promptness, and my teammates for their unwavering support in these difficult times,” He concluded. ,

Rahul suffered the injury in the second over of the match after being put into bat by RCB. Faf du Plessis punches a length ball from Marcus Stoinis through covers and it reaches the fence. Rahul follows it up before pulling it in front of the boundary cushion. He could not save four runs but injured himself while moaning in pain.

The physio rushed to see Rahul’s condition which was not looking good as the LSG skipper was unable to stand on his own. His teammates and support staff helped him up after which he left the field
