KKR replied to Mohun Bagan’s press release saying that the KKR management has nothing to do with the crowd management at the stadium.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday issued a clarification on the statement issued by Mohun Bagan. The Kolkata-based football club on Sunday claimed that the KKR management barred their fans from entering the Eden Gardens for wearing century-old jerseys.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), whose RP Sanjiv Goenka Group has common owners with defending Indian Super League champions Mohun Bagan, sported the iconic green and maroon colors in their match against KKR on Saturday. Club supporters arrived at the Eden Gardens to show support for the Krunal Pandya-led team, but were banned from entering the venue, according to an official Mohun Bagan release.

“It was a special match for Mohun Bagan supporters as LSG wore a new green and maroon jersey. But, the KKR management curtailed the freedom of Mohun Bagan supporters (who are also fans of KKR and LSG) And did not allow him to enter the stadium as he was wearing Mohun Bagan jersey,” Mohun Bagan general secretary Debashish Dutta said in a media release.

KKR responded to the release saying that the KKR management has nothing to do with the crowd management at the stadium.

“There is some misleading news going around that the KK management barred some fans from entering Eden Gardens during the KK vs LSG IPL game on May 20.

“For the record, KK management has nothing to do with crowd management at the stadium. We were informed that there was some ambush marketing attempt by some vested interests, which was immediately stopped by the IPL League Anti-Ambush Marketing Team as per IPL league policy.

“KKR is grateful for the wonderful relationship with all its fans in Kolkata and for making every game a packed house at Eden Gardens! It is one of the biggest fan bases of any franchise and would never disrespect anyone,” KKR’s statement read.

Paying a fitting tribute to the 132-year-old legacy of the football club, LSG thrashed KKR with a one-run win, securing the Lucknow franchise a second successive playoff berth.
