Jammu: Acting on a tip-off, Kishtwar Police on Wednesday foiled a terror conspiracy by arresting a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist and recovering a hand grenade from him during checking at a security point at Drabshalla Thathri in the district.
Mukesh Singh, ADGP, Jammu regionSaid that he had information about hostile elements planning to create unrest through handlers to detonate grenades in Kishtwar district.
“A joint naka was set up at Drabshalla Thathri at 5.30 pm on Wednesday by a team of personnel from Kishtwar Police, 26 RR (Army) and CRPF 52 Battalion. During the search of vehicles and passengers, the party noticed a suspicious person, who was trying to evade checking/searches,” said ADGP Singh, adding that alert personnel immediately overpowered him. On search of the said person, the security forces recovered a hand grenade from his possession.
The ADGP further said that he has been identified as Sohail Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Bathri Gandoh in the district. she will addand was arrested on the spot.
“The arrested terrorist belongs to Lashkar-e-Taiba and the grenade was provided to him by Pakistan-based handler Khobayb,” the senior police officer said.
The ADGP said that an FIR has been registered at Kishtwar police station under relevant sections and investigation has been started.
Earlier on August 26, a joint team of Army and Police had arrested two terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) organization in Kishtwar district and recovered a huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives, including a pistol along with a magazine. and 20 rounds, one grenade, one empty AK-47 magazine of Hizbul Mujahideen’s Doda division, two wireless sets, one wireless antenna and letter pad.
On 9 August, police arrested two newly recruited Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists from Kalingasu area of ​​Tander, Dachhan in Kishtwar district and recovered a pistol, two grenades, a UBGL and a wireless set from their possession.
Earlier on January 22, an unidentified terrorist hurled a grenade at a police vehicle in Dadpeth area along the Kishtwar-Chatru road, but they missed the target and the bomb exploded in an empty stretch of road and no one was injured in the attack.
