‘Kisan Garjana’ rally: What are demands of farmers who have converged at Delhi’s Ramleela Maidan?

new Delhi: Farmers on Monday (December 19, 2022) began mobilizing at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan for the ‘Kisan Garjan’ rally, demanding various relief measures from the Centre.

‘Kisan Garjana’ rally is being organized by the Bhartiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), to seek various relief measures to improve the condition of farmers.

According to reports, around 50,000 to 55,000 people were expected to turn up at the Maidan in 700 to 800 buses and 3,500 to 4,000 private vehicles.

In a note issued by BKS, it has been said that if the demands of the farmers are not taken care of in time, then the government will have to face trouble.

Farmers who reached Ramlila Maidan by buses, tractors and motorcycles from all over the country are holding ‘Kisan Garjan’ rally with four major demands.

  1. They are demanding remunerative price for their crops based on the input cost.
  2. The farmers have also called for withdrawal of GST on all types of agricultural activities.
  3. They have also sought permission for commercial production of genetically modified crops.
  4. A ‘Kisan Garjana’ rally is also being organized to pressurize the central government to increase the financial assistance provided under the PM-Kisan scheme. Launched in December 2018, the scheme provides an income support of Rs 6,000 per year in three equal installments to all land holding farmer families.
