Kevin Pietersen thinks that’s the only thing holding back RR captain Sanju Samson

RR did well with the bat with a score of 185 in the first game against PBKS, but failed to chase down 155 in the second game. The only bright spark from that encounter was skipper Sanju Samson, who remained unbeaten on 70. In 53 balls, only one other batsman could score runs in doubles.

Former England captain Kevin Pietersen, however, “absolutely loves” 26-year-old Samson and feels his inconsistency is the only thing between the RR captain and his becoming the superstar of Indian cricket.

“I absolutely love him as a batsman. I think she is absolutely incredible. The way he plays the pull shot, the way he can hit sixes, the way he manipulates the spinners around the field and picks up the gab. When he scores a century, there is no better batsman to watch than him. It’s just their inconsistency that you keep asking me about,” Pietersen said on Star Sports.

Samson has so far scored 351 runs in nine matches including a century and a half-century in IPL 2021. Pietersen wondered whether the Rajasthan Royals captaincy was weighing heavily on him while batting and said that Samson could learn from someone like KL Rahul.

“Is it because of his captaincy? Maybe he is thinking too much about his role as captain. He needs to do what KL Rahul does and say to himself… ‘You know what? I’m going to bat. Now is my time to bat. I will captain for the second time, but now is my time to bat,” Pietersen said.
