Kerala students to undergo Kovid test after 38 test positive in Hassan district of Karnataka

Hasan: District officials said that students from Kerala who are residing in Hassan district of Karnataka will be tested for COVID-19. The move comes after 38 nursing students who returned from Kerala tested positive for the infection in the district on Friday.

The authorities have sealed a PG hostel facility and quarantined 27 of his primary contacts.

Nursing students had reached Karnataka about a week ago to take the nursing examination. Though they came with a negative report of Covid, Hassan district authorities subjected them to a Covid-19 test. While the investigation report of 21 girl students was received on Thursday, the authorities got the test report of the remaining students on Friday. They all belong to the same college.

The health officials immediately swung into action and sealed the Nisarga Paying Guest Hostel. All the 27 primary contacts of the 21 students whose test results were received on Thursday have been quarantined. The authorities are now subjecting all the students of Kerala to the Kovid tests.

A large number of students had enrolled for Nursing and other courses in Hassan city.

Meanwhile, people called on Deputy Commissioner R. Protests were held outside Girish’s residence over non-availability of vaccines. The protesters said that they have been waiting for the first dose of the Kovid vaccine for more than a week.

Last week, the Karnataka government made it mandatory for people traveling from Kerala and Maharashtra to produce a negative RT-PCR test report, not older than 72 hours, to enter the state. According to The Times of India, this step was taken after the increasing number of Kovid-19 cases in both the states.
