The Southern Naval Command on Saturday assisted the local authorities in fighting the fire that broke out at the Brahmapuram waste plant.
Navy fire engines were deployed at the site to augment the efforts of the local administration.
An aerial survey was carried out by a naval helicopter to assess the extent of the fire.
At least 5000 liters of water was sprayed in the active fire areas once the rescue operation started.
In addition, additional fire fighting teams and resources were activated to augment the efforts of the district administration.
Naval ALHs from INS Garuda were deployed along with Large Area Aerial Liquid Dispersion Equipment (LAALDE) to drop buckets of water on the affected areas.
All efforts are on with local agencies and authorities to control the spread of the fire.
