As part of enhancing infrastructure in government schools, Education Minister V. Sivankutty on Tuesday launched the Kerala Infrastructure and… technology For Education (KITE) will deploy 36,366 more laptops in state-run schools. Laptops will be used for IT practical examinations in the current academic year.

Sivankutty said this is part of the Hi-Tech School and Hi-Tech Lab projects – the biggest ever ICT project in India in the education sector.

“This will also be the first time that AMC support and insurance coverage has been facilitated for 5 lakh ICT devices at the same time,” Sivankutty said.

“The new supply of laptops will include 16,500 laptops for laboratories in hi-tech schools, 2,360 laptops through new tender for Vidyakiranam project and 17,506 laptops through redistribution through Vidyakiranam project. This is in continuation of the 4.4 lakh ICT devices deployed in the state’s schools as part of a Rs 760-crore hi-tech project.”

These laptops are equipped with either Intel Core-i3 processor or Celeron processor.

The minister further informed that KITE has facilitated annual maintenance contract support for 32,000 laptops for which the 5 year warranty is expiring from this year. This will be extended to 90,000 laptops and 72,000 projectors on expiry of the respective warranties.
