Kerala government announces Rs 2 crore cash prize and promotion for men’s hockey team goalkeeper PR Sreejesh

After facing criticism, the Kerala government appointed Indian men’s hockey team goalkeeper P. Tokyo Olympics. Sreejesh, who also holds the post of Deputy Director (Sports) in the Public Education Department, will be promoted to the post of Joint Director (Sports), the state government announced.

Kerala Sports Minister V Abdurhiman made the announcement at a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram after the cabinet meeting. He also added that 5 lakh each will be given to the 8 players participating in the Tokyo Olympics.

Sajan Prakash, KT Irfan, Noah Nirmal Tom, Alex Antony, M. Jabir, M. Sreeshankar, Amoz Jacob and Mohammad Anas Yahia represented Kerala in the Quadrennial Games.

Earlier, former world champion Anju Bobby George had criticized the Kerala state government for not recognizing Indian hockey team goalkeeper PR Sreejesh for his stellar performances. Tokyo Olympics. Speaking to Mathrubhumi TV channel, the former Olympian said, “The allegation that the Kerala government did not reward Sreejesh is true”. While other state governments announced cash prizes and other allowances even before athletes win medals and return to the state. However, in the case of Sreejesh, who also hails from Kerala, he did not get the recognition he deserved. “One must understand the value of an Olympic medal,” she lamented.
