Kerala crosses 1 lakh mark in active covid cases. Thiruvananthapuram News – Times of India

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With over 30% test positivity rate and active cases once again crossing the one lakh mark, the state is witnessing a rapid rise in the number of Covid-19 cases.
The state crossed one lakh active cases after three months when the state saw the one lakh mark (1,01,419) on October 11. Active cases have gone up to 1,03,864 on Sunday.
There is a rapid spread of cases in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam Where the active cases are 20,665 and 20,554 respectively. The TPR in these districts has also gone above 30%, necessitating the district administration to impose severe restrictions.
As per reports, there are at least 18 institutional clusters in Thiruvananthapuram and 11 in Ernakulam. In Thiruvananthapuram, half a dozen health institutions, including both government and private hospitals, have become clusters. Similarly, many educational institutions have become clusters in Ernakulam.
The district administrations of these two districts have completely banned all kinds of gatherings including religious functions at the places of worship.
Only funerals and marriages have been allowed in which a maximum of 50 people each can attend.
In the last one week, 20,345 cases were reported in Thiruvananthapuram and 13,916 in Ernakulam. Kozhikode with 7,755 cases and Thrissur with 6915 are the two other districts seeing a massive spike in cases.
In the week of January 9-15, the average number of active cases in the state was 57,644. There has been an increase of 51,712 new cases in the state as compared to the previous week.
There has been an increase of 174% in new cases as compared to the previous week. The average test positivity rate in the last seven days was 16.5%, which has now risen to above 30%.
The Health Department has issued a warning with a huge increase in cases in all the districts. People have also been asked to avoid all kinds of mass gatherings and strictly follow the COVID protocol when going out.
