Eight students hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning in Kerala

Eight students of a primary school in Kerala were admitted to a hospital on Friday in a suspected case of food poisoning. The incident took place at Government Upper Primary School in Kayamkulam in Alappuzha district of Kerala.

According to health department officials, about eight students were undergoing treatment after they felt uneasy after eating mid-day meal at the school on Friday.

The officials had visited the school and collected food and water samples.

Four students of an Anganwadi in Kottarakkara in Kollam district were admitted to the hospital after they allegedly complained of uneasiness.

Meanwhile, Kerala Health Minister Veena George has ordered the Commissioner of Food Safety and the Director of Women and Child Welfare Department to investigate the incident and submit a report.

In a similar incident last month, a 17-year-old schoolgirl was killed and 18 others fell ill after eating “rotten shawarma” at a food stall in Cheruvathur town of Kerala’s Kasaragod district.

Kerala Health Minister Veena George had ordered an inquiry into the incident.
