After spending a “restless” night in Tihar jail, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was served bread and tea for breakfast on his first morning in the central prison. The AAP-supremo was sent to a 14-day judicial custody till April 15 in connection with the money laundering case.

According to media reports, Kejriwal was given breakfast at around 6:40 pm followed by a long-hour meditation session in his cell. The AAP leader also performed yoga in the jail. His sugar levels have also dropped since last night.

Kejriwal, who is lodged in Tihar’s Jail No. 2, was served lunch at 12 noon, after which all inmates returned to their cells until 3 pm, as per the prison schedule.

An early dinner – the same as lunch – will be served to the AAP chief at 5:30 pm, after which the prisoners will be locked up for the night by 7 pm.

However, he is allowed to have home-cooked food in lunch and dinner and it will be served daily, till his sugar level comes to normal.

A mosquito net was also placed in his cell “due to which Kejriwal slept comfortably”, India Today reported quoting sources, adding that mosquito nets are available to all the inmates in Tihar.

On his first day in Tihar, the chief minister was given tea in the afternoon and was served home-cooked food for dinner, PTI reported.

Kejriwal’s Sugar Level Low After A Night In Tihar Jail

Kejriwal paced up and down his 14X8 feet cell on his first night in Tihar jail, managing only to sleep for a while, a prison official said.

According to prison officials, Kejriwal was brought to Tihar jail at 4 pm on Monday and was medically examined before being sent to his cell where he is staying alone. His sugar level was below 50 at that time and medicines were given to him on the advice of doctors, he said.

Two personnel from Tihar Jail Security and a jail warder have been deployed outside his cell. Jail authorities are keeping a watch on him through the CCTV cameras, while a quick reaction team has also been deployed near his cell, officials said.

KEJRIWAL’S PRISON FACILITIES

Delhi CM Kejriwal will be able to watch TV except during scheduled prison activities, such as meals and lock-UP. Between 18 and 20 channels, including news, entertainment, and sports are allowed. There will be doctors and medical staff available 24/7 in case of an emergency and regular check-ups will be given as Kejriwal is diabetic.

Kejriwal, who has so far run the Delhi government from the ED lock-up, will also be allowed to meet family members twice a week. However, their names must be on a list that is cleared by prison security.
