There is a debate in Karnataka regarding the temple-mosque. Several Hindu groups, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), have claimed that the Jamia Masjid in Mandya district was built by demolishing an ancient Hanuman temple. The groups have now raised four demands.
Over 100 VHP and Bajrang Dal activists who tried to march towards Jamia Masjid on Saturday were taken into custody by police as prohibitory orders were in force in Srirangapatna, the erstwhile capital of 18th century ruler Tipu Sultan.
