Mysore: Volunteers of Isha Foundation’s Cauvery Calling Village outreach initiative said that tree based agriculture on private farms in the Cauvery river basin is getting a good response. Mysore District. The initiative has been taken to promote a farmer driven ecological movement.
T Tirthan, a volunteer, said, “Around 700 farmers have shown interest in 23 gram panchayats of the district.”
He told the media here on Wednesday that the campaign has been carried out in nine Cauvery basin districts including Mysore, Kodagu, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkamagaluru. Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Mandya, Ramanagar, And tumakuru.
This campaign has been launched under the aegis of Sadhguru, Isha Foundation And Isha Outreach, in collaboration with the departments of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Forest, Horticulture and Sericulture. 1,800 programs are being organized to create awareness on this issue.
Programs are being organized in every Gram Panchayat, District Headquarters and Taluk Headquarters in Cauvery basin in collaboration with District Panchayat. “We are appointing one friend of trees, or mara friend, for every two GPs. Tree-based agriculture will help farmers, which has been proven. There are many success stories,” he said.
“The Kaveri river flows for six months in a year. Planting more and more trees is the only way to keep the river flowing throughout the year. The campaign is being successfully implemented under the guidance of Sadhguru,” she added.
