Mysore/Belagavi: The tourism and hospitality sector is showing early signs of revival after the easing of the lockdown. But the industry has dashed its hopes due to the experience of the past one year.
Barring Kodagu, all districts have seen a boom in business, with popular resorts, lodges and homestays, reopening with 50 per cent capacity from June 21.
The state government’s unit Jungle Lodges and Resorts (JLR) is set to reopen its doors for tourists from Monday. JLR President MA Appanna told STOI that only food and accommodation will be provided to the visitors and only 50 per cent facilities will be used due to the COVID protocol. “Visitors can stay and relax in lodges inside the forest areas,” he said. He said that unless the government gives permission, there will be no safari.

Suresh Chengappa, owner of Honey Valley and Chingara Homestay in Kodagu, said he had received around 10 calls since June 15, mostly from researchers. “We will start hosting the guests after the permission of the district administration. Apart from the natural scenery, the waterfalls here are a major attraction.”
Inayat Khan, a tour and travel operator, said that from July 1, Chikkamagaluru will see visitors with further easing of restrictions. In the last 15 days, his agency has received several calls from people wanting to visit waterfalls, go trekking and stay in the forest. He said that business would reach normalcy only after the temples of the area were opened for the devotees.
