Muslim Aikyata Vedike Surathkal demanded the government to provide compensation of Rs 25 lakh each to the kin of Mahammed Fazil and Masood B.

MANGALURU: Muslim Aikyata Vedike Surathkal, a forum involving the office-bearers of 27 mosques in Surathkal, have set a 10-day deadline for the government to provide compensation of Rs 25 lakh each to the kin of Mahammed Fazil and Masood B, failing which it threatened to hold a massive protest.
Heads of various masjids in Surathkal region warned that they will hold protests along with various organisations and secular forces.
Umar Farooq Sakhafi of Badriya Jumma Masjid, Krishnapura, told reporters on Monday the state government and Dakshina Kannada district administration have adopted a discriminatory policy when the district reported three murders.
“Out of three murder victims, two belonged to Muslim community. The chief minister and ministers consoled the family of Praveen Nettaru and released an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh. However, none of the ministers or representatives of the government visited the house of B Masood in Bellare, just five km from Praveen’s house. Similarly, none of them visited the house of Mahammed Fazil, a resident of Mangalapete in Katipalla, who was brutally murdered in Surathkal,” he said.
Taking exception to the government not handing over Masood and Fazil murder cases to NIA on lines of Praveen’s case, Sakhafi said those who hatched the conspiracy, extended funding and provoked miscreants to commit the murders are yet to be known.
“The government has handed over the murder case of Praveen Nettaru to the NIA. However, in two other cases, only a few are arrested, and the government has done nothing more. Hence, the government should hand over all the three murder cases to the NIA or the enquiry should be conducted by senior police officials or a retired judge,” he urged.
The forum members said that on the day of Fazil’s murder, a person by name Salam Kana had told Surathkal police that he was followed by some suspicious persons in a vehicle. They demanded a detailed inquiry into the suspicions of people being followed for retaliation after the murder of Praveen Nettaru.
Stating that there is no information about the persons who gave shelter to assailants after Fazil’s murder, the forum members also sought to know whether it was a conspiracy to protect influential persons.
