Meanwhile, Karnataka Class 10 or SSLC board exams began on Monday with the first language paper in Kannada, Telugu, Hindi, Marathi, Urdu, Tamil or Sanskrit. SSLC exam is going to run till 11th April. Over 8.74 lakh students have enrolled for the board exams to be held in over 48,000 halls in 3,440 centers across the state.

The exam is being conducted in Karnataka after a long controversy over wearing hijab in educational institutions. As the SSLC exam began on Monday, state Home Minister Araga Gyanendra issued a strict warning against wearing hijab at the exam centre. Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister BC Nagesh also expressed his views on the same lines and said that the police will take action against the criminals. However, Nagesh said that he is confident that no student would stand a chance for such things.

Students will have to take the exam in their school uniform. Before the final exam, the Karnataka Board also conducted the preliminary exam for class 10 students from February 21 to 26.

Karnataka Board Class 12 is scheduled to be conducted from April 22 to May 18.
