Karnataka resumes bus service to Kasaragod. Mangaluru News – Times of India

MANGALURU: For the first time in four months, State Road Transport Corporations (SRTCs) in Karnataka and Kerala started interstate Enough Services between Dakshina Kannada and Kasaragod on Friday.
The services were suspended in August following a rise in Covid cases in two districts on either side of the border. KSRTC buses on the Mangaluru-Kasaragod route ended their journey at Talapady, while Kerala’s SRTC also cut services.
However, on Friday, the Dakshina Kannada district administration allowed the resumption of services, but with riders. It said that daily wagers, including students and those working in different sectors in Dakshina Kannada, will have to undergo RT-PCR test once in every seven days.

“The weekly test positivity rate in Dakshina Kannada has come down to 0.3%, so we have decided to allow the resumption of bus services,” Rajendra said. “Hundreds of people commute every day between Kerala and Karnataka for various purposes including education and employment and there was a huge demand for resumption of bus services.”
However, he said, passengers should compulsorily wear masks and follow COVID-appropriate behaviour.
Rajendra has directed the SRTCs of Kerala and Karnataka to furnish details of buses that ply across the border daily. “The conductors of buses on interstate routes should allow passengers to board only after verifying the documents. Those who have Covid-19 symptoms should not be allowed to travel,” he said.
On Friday, 28 buses from Mangaluru division of KSRTC and 24 from SRTC of Kerala started service on the route. Both the corporations are yet to decide on long distance services including Mangaluru-Ernakulam and other routes.
