Former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah and state Congress president DK Shivakumar on Friday began separate bus tours as part of the party’s ‘Praja Dhvani Yatra’ ahead of the assembly elections, which are about three months away.

The Siddaramaiah-led team will visit assembly constituencies in the north Karnataka region, while Shivakumar will cover the southern districts.

The team, led by Siddaramaiah comprising 35 leaders, started from Basavakalyan in Bidar district. He will visit the ‘Anubhav Mantapa’ to pay respects to the statue of 12th century social reformer Basaveshwara before addressing a public meeting there.

The state Congress chief’s election campaign began at Mulbagal in Kolar district after offering prayers at the ancient Ganapati temple at Kudumalai.

He later tweeted, “Worshipped the Shaligram idol of Mahaganapati at Kudumalai in Mulbagal. I prayed that the Praja Dhvani Yatra continues without any trouble in Kolar district.” Earlier, Shivakumar’s motorcade was given a rousing welcome at KR Puram in East Bengaluru, where a large number of party workers garlanded him and others on the bus.

Sharing a video later, Shivakumar tweeted, “A glimpse of the people’s faith in the Congress Party’s vision – the way KR Puram welcomed us with unspeakable enthusiasm and love.” Shivakumar, leading a team of 54 party leaders, will take out his bus tour from February 3 to 9.
