Karnataka Municipal Election Result 2021 Live Updates: Counting of votes is underway in Hubballi-Dharwad, Kalaburagi and Belagavi city municipal corporations, which went to polls on September 3. According to State Election Commission officials, 300 candidates are in the fray in Kalaburagi for 55. In Hubli-Dharwad, 420 seats in 82 wards are contesting. In Belagavi, 519 candidates are in the fray with 58 wards. Apart from BJP, Congress and JD(S), Aam Aadmi Party and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen have also fielded their candidates. In Belagavi, members of the Shiv Sena-Maharashtra Integration Committee have also contested as independents. Elaborate security arrangements have been made in the counting centers as well as in the cities amid the adherence to the COVID-19 protocol.

Here are the latest updates:

• There has been a lot of delay in the election of these corporations, as elections to the state capital Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike have been held. However, the BBMP elections are yet to be held despite being pending for more than a year.

• Elections in North Karnataka may set the tone for the BBMP elections which are due by the end of the year. In addition, elections to several district and taluk panchayats are also to be held.

• Elections to the Belagavi, Hubli-Dharwad and Kalaburagi municipal corporations on September 3 were the first litmus test for Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. All three regions are in northern Karnataka, and have a significant population of the dominant Lingayat community.

• Counting of votes for municipal elections will take place in three cities of Karnataka, the first reflection of voter sentiment in the post Yeddyurappa regime.
