BENGALURU: Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri on Wednesday said that at least 18 bills will be introduced during the monsoon session of the Assembly, which will run from September 13 to 24.
Of these, 12 are new bills, while four were introduced during the last session but were not cleared. The rest are replacements of ordinances.
Kageri told reporters that the legislature would have a committee on ethics to guide members on proper practices. The Rules Committee has recommended the constitution of the panel. If all parties agree, the motion will be placed in the Assembly and the Council.
He also said that the award for the best MLA based on the performance would be announced early this year. “We have set certain criteria to assess the performance of MLAs. Whoever gets the most points will be declared the winner. The award will be given by the end of the season,” he said.
A joint session on the values ​​and principles of parliamentary democracy will be held on the last day. Kageri has requested Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to address this session. He said that he has directed all MLAs and ministers to avoid taking leave and be present for talks.
