Ahead of Basavaraj Bommai’s visit to Banavasi, ‘PayCM’ posters against Chief Minister and Labor Minister Shivaram Hebbar appeared across the city in Uttara Kannada district.

Posters of PayCM and PayMLA are being put up in various areas of Karnataka as a jibe at the alleged corruption in the BJP-led Karnataka government. Earlier, a case was registered against Congress workers for pasting posters of PayCM with CM’s face in Bengaluru.

The Congress’s PayCM campaign, a wordplay on digital payments firm PayTM launched last year, included posters that had CM Bommai’s face as a QR scan code. When scanned, one directed to a website called ’40 percent government’, which allegedly exposed corruption in the BJP government in Karnataka and how 40% commission was charged on public works.

Describing it as an “evil design” that was targeted to defame the BJP government, Bommai said the campaign is a concerted attempt by the Congress to tarnish his and the state’s reputation.

He rejected the allegations of corruption, saying it was a conspiracy to defame his government and ordered the police to arrest all those involved.

To counter the PayCM poster campaign, the BJP released a booklet of its set of posters. In a 28-page booklet targeting Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah and the Congress, the main one was a caricature of the leader with 16 arms each, depicting an alleged scam committed during his government between 2013 and 2018.

BJP also released a poster of Fake Gandhi targeting Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her family. The poster showed how the Gandhi family is out on bail in the National Herald case and how “fake Gandhis” use the name of the Father of the Nation to wield power.
