Ahead of the Karnataka assembly elections next month, the Income Tax (IT) department knocked at the house of former Congress leader Yusuf Sharif alias KGF Babu, following which several shocking seizures were made. Sharif recently quit the grand old party and filed his nomination as an independent candidate.

On Wednesday it was said in the news that the house of KGF Babu has been raided. During the raid, more than one thousand voter IDs were recovered and an FIR was also registered in this regard.

Sarees, Van Heusen suits and other items seized during raids

The discovery of over a thousand voter IDs was not the only shocking revelation during the IT raid at KGF Babu’s house. Around 26 bags, 394 sarees packed in four boxes, 500 pamphlets printed in Kannada and English languages ​​and 481 suits of Van Heusen brand were also recovered.

Apart from this, a total of 1,925 checks worth Rs 5,000 each from HDFC Bank account were found in one box. These checks were pasted with the voter ID card of Chikkapete assembly constituency and it is alleged that KGF Babu went to the assembly seat to woo the voters.

After the voter ID was recovered, Returning Officer Vijay SL filed a complaint after taking permission from the court. Notably, the IT department conducted raids at 50 different locations in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Even though Yusuf Sharif alias KGF Babu tendered his resignation from the Congress party on Thursday itself, he was earlier suspended from the party in January, for his reported statement where he said that the Congress will fight for the upcoming assembly elections. Interestingly, KGF Babu’s net worth, which includes that of his wife, has reduced by Rs 121 crore compared to what he declared during the 2018 elections.

Income tax raids were carried out by IT officials in May last year on suspicion of income tax evasion. The report added that the officials also raided Ruksana Palace and an office owned by KGF Babu and checked the records.
