Karnataka: Gauribidanur rail passengers block Basava Express | Bengaluru News – Times of India

Bengaluru: Gauribidanur Angry train passengers block Bagalkot-Mysore jam due to cancellation of KSR Bengaluru City-Hindupur MEMU services Basava Express on Monday morning.
The train was delayed by 55 minutes due to the protest.
South Western Railway Officials said the only Basava Express at Gauribidanur was running late between 7.50 am and 8.45 am.
Nirmal Kumar, aboard the Basava Express going from Mantralayam Road to Yesvantpur, said, “Around 200 people stopped the train. Most of them were daily wage laborers going from Gauribidanur to Yelahanka or Majestic. But SWR has now canceled their MEMU services and is not even allowing them to travel in unreserved coaches in other trains. In this case, the passengers had given a petition to the SWR officials 20 days back, but there was no response from their side. Due to this the protest has started.”
“There were two MEMU services which were temporarily canceled in respect of yard works at Devarapalli and Hindupur in connection with doubling work,” said Anish Hegde, chief public relations officer of SWR.
“We are looking into increasing the general/unreserved coaches in the trains running in the section to avoid inconvenience till the yard work is completed at Hindupur,” he said.
Hegde said, “Between the deadline of doubling the work Yelahanka-Penukonda It is December 2021. The work of non-interlock in the yard from Phase 1 Devarapalli to Hindpur is going on now. This section will be operational by the end of November 2021.”
“After the work, Hindupur will get an additional line (track) which will also be a fifth track, a wider platform (25 meters) and a wider FOB (foot over bridge) with a second entry. We are working to increase the facilities for the passengers.
