Karnataka: Former Congress leader CM Ibrahim joins JD(S)

New Delhi: Former Congress leader CM Ibrahim on Sunday joined Janata Dal (Secular) in Karnataka.

The former Congress leader took charge as the party president of the state unit of JD(S) in Bengaluru in the presence of senior leaders HD Deve Gowda and HD Kumaraswamy.

According to a report in news agency ANI, Ibrahim said on the occasion, “JD(S) is the oldest party and they have 5-10 workers dedicated in each village. We just have to strengthen them. Next time JD(S) will form the government and HD Kumaraswamy will become the CM here. People of Karnataka consider me their son.

Earlier, hinting at joining the party, Ibrahim had predicted that the Congress would come third after JD(S) and BJP respectively in the 2023 assembly elections.

“I have freed myself from the burden. Regarding my next step, I have left it to my national leader Deve Gowda (former PM and JD(S) supremo)… It is (supporters’) unanimous opinion that my next step should be with them. Hindustan Times quoted Ibrahim as saying.

“I wish that JD(S) comes to power on its own,” he said. The first would be the JD(S), the second the BJP and the third the Congress (in the 2023 elections). The atmosphere is such that what happened in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab will be repeated in Karnataka (for Congress),” the leader had said.
