MANGALURU: How many mandatory restrictions and signs of proper treatment of covid are there in the district, Dakshina Kannada The last 14 days of August alone accounted for nearly 70% of the Covid-19 cases reported in the entire July. The gradual rise in cases – the positivity rate now over 4% – over the past four weeks has kept district health officials on their toes.
The district, which reported 7,488 cases in July, has already registered 5,163 cases in August. In the first fortnight of July, it recorded only 3,363 positive cases.
The positivity rate was 3.1% between July 14 and July 20, but rose to 3.7% and 5.1%, respectively, before falling to 4% over the next three weeks. The active caseload has also increased from 1,933 on 14 July to 3,682 on 14 August – an increase of 90%.
The district administration is responsible for a spillover from Kerala and with the help of the health department and police, officials are focusing on interstate commuters. Kasaragod and other parts of Kerala, where the positivity rate is far higher than in Dakshina Kannada. Kasaragod District There were 6,331 active cases till Saturday alone.
Doctor wife Rajesh, the reproductive and child health officer of Dakshina Kannada district, told TOI that now the emphasis is on vaccines in border villages.
“Following the instructions of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, we have started a special vaccination drive in villages near the border of Kasaragod district,” he said. “In the meantime, we will continue our vaccination campaign for priority areas and administer a second dose to those who are eligible to receive the second dose. We are getting enough stock of vaccines and the government has promised to send more from next week. A consignment of 25,200 doses is expected to arrive on Monday. Majority of the available stock will be reserved for vaccinating people in border villages.
