The positivity rate was 3.1% between July 14 and July 20, but rose to 3.7% and 5.1%, respectively, before falling to 4% over the next three weeks. The active caseload has also increased from 1,933 on 14 July to 3,682 on 14 August – an increase of 90%.
The district administration is responsible for a spillover from Kerala and with the help of the health department and police, officials are focusing on interstate commuters. “Following the instructions of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, we have started a special vaccination drive in villages near the border of Kasaragod district,” he said. “In the meantime, we will continue our vaccination campaign for priority areas and administer a second dose to those who are eligible to receive the second dose. We are getting enough stock of vaccines and the government has promised to send more from next week. A consignment of 25,200 doses is expected to arrive on Monday. Majority of the available stock will be reserved for vaccinating people in border villages.
