Karnataka: Anti-conversion bill likely to be tabled in Assembly during winter session

Home Minister Araga Gyanendra said on Monday that the proposed anti-conversion bill is likely to be introduced during the winter session of the Karnataka Assembly, which is being held in Belagavi. Talking to reporters, the minister said, “A draft of the bill is ready and it is being seriously considered.”

He further said, “It was aimed at ensuring that people of all religions practice their faith “peacefully and in harmony”. “The proposed bill is being prepared within the framework of the Constitution,” the minister said.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that the proposed anti-conversion law, which the state government intends to introduce in the winter session of the assembly, is only to prevent conversion by inducement.

Talking to media persons here on Sunday, he said that people need not worry about the proposed anti-conversion bill. The Chief Minister said that the proposed law will not affect any religion, their practices and traditions which are guaranteed under the Constitution.

The Chief Minister assured, “Hinduism, Christianity, Islam and Sikhism are constitutionally recognized religions. There will be no hindrance in the worship and religious practices of people belonging to any religion. The Bill seeks to prevent religious conversion by mere inducements. is for.”

He further said that religious conversion is not good for the society. He said, “The poor and weaker sections of the society should not fall for this. Conversion brings problems within the families. Hence, the bill is being proposed.”
