Kanwar Yatra, Bakrid: Anti-social elements will …, CM Yogi cautions police

Lucknow: In view of Kanwar Yatra and Bakrid, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the state police to be alert as anti-social elements may try to create unrest. The chief minister also reviewed the law and order situation with top officials of the state on Wednesday ahead of the Kanwar Yatra, Bakrid and other upcoming festivals.

The Chief Minister warned that anti-social elements would try to spoil the environment but we have to be alert and talk to the religious leaders. The Kanwar Yatra, in which Shiva devotees from the northern states on foot or other means offer to collect water from the Ganges in Haridwar at Shiva temples in their regions, is scheduled to begin on July 14.

Devotees can register themselves at kavad.delhipolice.gov. However it is not mandatory.

“Kanwar Yatra is an event of fervor of faith. Traditionally dance, song and music have been a part of it. In this way, devotees should not be disturbed. Ensure sound of DJ, song-music etc. As per the prescribed standards and Only religious songs are played in this,” tweeted Aditya Nath.

Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid) will be celebrated on 10th July. However, it depends on the sighting of the moon. Eid-ul-Azha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice”, is marked by sacrificing an animal, usually a sheep or goat, to prove one’s devotion and love for Allah. After the sacrifice, people distribute prasad to family, friends, neighbors and especially to the poor and needy.
