Kangana, Taapsee and other B-Town celebs react to Vir Das’s ‘Two Indias’ monologue controversy

New Delhi: Popular comedian Vir Das has courted controversy after a clip of his ‘I Come From To India’ monologue went viral on social media. The ‘Delhi Belly’ star uploaded a video of her recent performance at the John F Kennedy Center in Washington DC on her official YouTube handle. In his six-minute clip, Das takes a dig at several issues that are making India sick. From gang rape to India’s fight against COVID-19, the comedian talks about the ‘do India’ it comes from.

How did Bollywood react to Vir Das’s monologue?

Several tinsel town celebs including Taapsee Pannu, Hansal Mehta and Richa Chadha lauded Das’s ‘courage’. However, many stars also slammed him for ‘maligning’ India’s image in a foreign land.

Taapsee, who is enjoying the success of ‘Rashmi Rocket’, says she is excited to see Veer reach a ‘respectable level’.

The ‘Thappad’ actress wrote, “Because I come from an India that is not only filled with pride and joy to see fellow countrymen reach that honorable position, but I also come from an India that believes that We will pass this time too.” He used the hashtag ‘Forever Proud’ while sharing the note.

Kangana Ranaut dominates Vir Das, demands strict action

The ‘Thalaivi’ actress, who created a ruckus with her remarks on ‘India’s independence’ in 1947, slammed Veer for normalizing Indian men. He shared a post on his Instagram story which read, “When you generalize all Indian men as mass-rapists it promotes racism and bullying against Indians all over the world… Bengal Famine Churchill famously said, ‘These Indians breed like rabbits. They are bound to die like this..’ He blamed the sex drive/fertility of Indians for the death of lakhs of people due to hunger…Such a constructive act targeting the entire caste is soft terrorism…Strict action should be taken against such criminals @virdas.”
