Joshimath shrinking update: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a high-level meeting on Friday in connection with the latest Joshimath landslide incident and directed the officials to set up a large temporary rehabilitation center in the town. Presiding over the meeting at the Secretariat, he directed the officials to set up a temporary rehabilitation center at a safe place in Joshimath.

The Chief Minister can visit Joshimath on Saturday, January 7 to take stock of things. As per the notification of Jal Shakti Ministry, a panel has also been formed to study the gradual sinking of land in the town.

Some of the other major decisions taken by the government during the meeting are as follows:

  • Chief Minister Dhami ordered the immediate evacuation of about 600 families living in houses that had developed major cracks.
  • He also announced a grant of Rs 4,000 per month for rent for six months to those who are being shifted to a safer place.
  • CM Dhami ordered sector and zone-wise planning in Joshimath.
  • Instructions have been given to vacate the danger zone immediately and activate the disaster control room in Joshimath.
  • Chamoli district administration instructed to immediately deploy a team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in the city.
  • The operation of Hotel View and Malari Inn has been suspended till further orders under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

Door to door survey in Joshimath

Meanwhile, Garhwal Commissioner Sushil Kumar and Disaster Management Secretary Ranjit Kumar Sinha started a door-to-door survey in Joshimath.

According to the statement of Chamoli district administration, out of 561 establishments, 153 are in Ravigram ward, 127 in Gandhinagar ward, 28 in Marwari ward, 24 in Lower Bazar ward, 52 in Singhdhar ward, 71 in Manohar Bagh. Cracks have been reported in 29 in Upper Bazar Ward, 27 in Sunil Ward and 50 in Parasari Ward.

Earlier on Thursday, a total of nine families were displaced, including four families from Joshimath Municipal Corporation, one Gurdwara Joshimath, one tourist hostel Manohar Bagh and others. A total of 38 families have been displaced so far.

Please tell that Joshimath Municipality President Shailendra Pawar said that due to leakage of water from inside the land in Marwari ward, big cracks have appeared in the houses.

Former union minister demanded geologists to conduct survey

Former Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Thursday urged geologists to conduct a survey in natural calamity-prone parts of Uttarakhand.

Earlier, in view of reports of land subsidence in Joshimath and cracks in several houses in the town, Chief Minister Dhami said that necessary action would be taken to ensure the safety of the people.
