‘Joota Se Marunga’: UP CMO Threatens CHC In-Charge

(Written by Manas Srivastava)

In the state of Uttar Pradesh, it seems that the conduct of certain high-ranking officers knows no bounds, as they frequently exhibit unruly behavior, regardless of the consequences. Recent incidents have highlighted a disturbing trend of officers using abusive language and even resorting to physical violence. These actions are not only tarnishing the reputation of the government but also causing distress to the people of Uttar Pradesh.

Across various cities in Uttar Pradesh, reports have emerged of junior officers shedding tears due to their interactions with senior officials. Some complainants have found themselves at the mercy of district officials, while others have been subjected to humiliating treatment. The situations have reached such extremes that some officers have resorted to physical violence, as depicted in four distressing incidents that have occurred this year.

In one instance, Sunil Kumar Sharma, the Superintendent of Auraiya Community Health Center, was seen crying profusely after an altercation with Chief Medical Officer (CMO) SK Verma. The confrontation occurred during an Ayushman Bhava Health Fair, where the CMO allegedly became enraged and subsequently berated Sharma, threatening to physically assault him, stating, “Jutta Se Marunga”. Distraught by the incident, Sharma’s emotional state was noticed by the Mandal President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Harpal Thakur, who promptly reported the matter to the local MLA.

Following this incident, several local BJP leaders expressed their dissatisfaction, and a complaint was filed against the CMO. Instructions were issued to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. However, the CMO has denied any wrongdoing.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case. On September 16, Bareilly Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Udit Pawar faced severe backlash after he used derogatory language and demeaned a complainant instead of addressing the issue. The incident was caught on camera, and the video quickly went viral on social media, leading to the removal of the officer from his post.
