KALYAN: A 34-year-old unemployed man allegedly strangled his 64-year-old mother in Hanuman Nagar in Kalyan (E) and tried to pass it off as a case of suicide. Ravi Pumni had done his BAMS.
Police said the habitual drinker used to demand money from his mother Saroja and frequently quarreled with her. On Sunday night, he had a dispute with her and strangled her.
On Monday morning, Ravi called up his sister, who is married and stays in the same area, informing her that their mother had died after hanging herself from the ceiling fan. The sister informed Kolsewadi police, who registered a suicide case and sent the body for a post-mortem at Rukminibai hospital.
Senior inspector Manohar Deshmukh said the post-mortem report said she was strangled.
