J&K targeted attack: Terrorists kill two Bihar laborers in Kulgam, third victim injured

Srinagar: Unidentified gunmen opened fire on them in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday evening, killing two non-local residents and injuring another.

Police said the gunmen opened fire on them at Wanpoh, killing two people from Bihar, Raja Reshi Dev and Joginder Reshi Dev, on the spot and injuring another.

The injured person was taken to the Government Medical College in Anantnag.

Police said that the condition of injured Teju Das son Chun Chun Reshi Das of Bihar is said to be stable.

“He has shotgun injuries in his back and hand. His condition is said to be stable,” said Dr Iqbal Sofi, Medical Superintendent, GMC Anantnag.

News agency PTI quoted officials as saying that the terrorists entered the laborers’ rented accommodation and fired indiscriminately at them.

Lt Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the “disgusting terror attack” and said the security forces would give a befitting reply.

In a tweet, the Lieutenant Governor wrote, “I strongly condemn the despicable terrorist attack on civilians in Kulgam. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

Bihar CM announces ex-gratia amount for the next of kin of the victims

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the next of kin of Raja Reshi Dev and Joginder Reshi Dev killed by terrorists in Kulgam.

CM Nitish Kumar also spoke to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and expressed concern over the killings, reported ANI.

The latest terrorist attack comes after two non-locals were shot dead by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar and Pulwama districts on Saturday.

Arvind Kumar Sah (30), a resident of Bihar’s Banka area, was shot dead by terrorists outside a park in Srinagar’s Idgah in the evening, a police official said. Kumar died on the spot.

In the second incident, terrorists fired on a carpenter from Uttar Pradesh Sagir Ahmed in Pulwama district on Saturday and seriously injured, the official said.

He said Ahmed died in the hospital.

Saturday’s killings came on a day when police claimed to have killed three terrorists within 24 hours who were involved in the killing of members of minority communities last week.

11 killed in targeted killings in J&K

With four killings in two days, the total number of victims killed in such attacks in the Valley has gone up to 11.

Earlier this month, after the killing of government teachers earlier this month, the number of such deaths in the Kashmir Valley had gone up to seven, of which four were of minorities.

The teachers who died on October 7 have been identified as Supinder Kaur, a resident of Alochi Bagh area of ​​Srinagar and Deepak Chand, a resident of Jammu. He was working as a teacher in a government boys’ school in Sangam, news agency PTI reported.

Earlier on October 6, in separate incidents in Srinagar and Bandipora districts of Jammu and Kashmir, terrorists shot dead three civilians within two hours.

The victims include Makhan Lal Bindru, a Kashmiri Pandit and owner of Srinagar’s most famous pharmacy. While he was in his pharmacy, he was shot dead by the assailants.

Within an hour, the terrorists killed a non-local street vendor in the Hawal area of ​​the city. The vendor, identified as Virendra, used to sell BHEL puris and was also shot at point-blank range. He died on the spot.

Then within minutes of the second killing, the third victim, Mohammad Shafi Lone, was shot dead at Naidkhai in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Earlier on October 2, terrorists shot dead Majid Ahmed Gojri, a resident of Chattabal Srinagar in Karna Nagar.

Later that night, another civilian, Mohammad Shafi Dar, a resident of Batamaloo, was shot and injured in SD Colony Batamaloo. He died due to injuries.
