J&K: Srinagar records hottest march in 131 years

According to the Indian Meteorological data availability, Qazigund recorded an average temperature of 12.6 degrees Celsius, the hottest since at least 1974.

Jammu and Kashmir witnessed record breaking temperatures this March as several stations broke their all-time high maximum temperature records.

According to Faizan Arif, an independent weather forecaster who conducts ‘Kashmir Weather’, March 2022 was the warmest in Srinagar since at least 1892.

Srinagar recorded an average maximum of 20.7 degrees Celsius, the hottest since 2004. While the mean minimum temperature was 6.7 °C, which was the highest ever in 131 years. The total figure for March was 13.7 °C in 2022 and 13.65 °C in 2004, thus surpassing the previous record in 2004.

According to the Indian Meteorological data availability, Qazigund recorded an average temperature of 12.6 °C, the hottest since at least 1974. The mean maximum temperature in 2004 was 20.6 °C while in 2022 it was 20.4 °C. The average minimum was recorded in 1975 at 6.5 °C, while it was 4.8 °C in 2010, 2021 and 2022.

Kupwara recorded the hottest temperature this March at 13.4 degrees Celsius since official record-keeping began in 1978. Pahalgam recorded an average temperature of 9.4 °C in March 2022, while the highest ever recorded was 9.7 °C in 2004. Similarly, Kokernag recorded the hottest March in the year 2004 at 12.6 °C. Whereas in March 2022 it was 12.3 °C.

Gulmarg recorded an average temperature of 6.7 °C in 2004, while it was 5.5 °C in 2022. Jammu recorded its second warmest temperature since 1982. The average temperature in 2004 was 24.4 °C, while in 2022 it was 23.3 °C. This was the hottest March for Bhaderwah since 1985, with an average temperature of 16.0 degrees Celsius. The maximum average for the month was 24.6 °C, which is behind the 24.9 °C figure set in 2004. However, at 7.4 °C, the mean minimum temperature was the highest since 1985.

Like Jammu city, Batote also witnessed the second hottest march. The average temperature figure in 2022 was 16.4 °C, while in 2004 it was 16.7 °C. This March, Banihal set its all-time highest average temperature record with March 2004. The average temperature in both March was 15.4 degrees Celsius. Katra saw the highest temperature since 2004. The average temperature in 2004 was 22.6 °C, while in 2022 it was 22.0 °C.
