J&K: Direction to district police to shift non-local laborers is fake, says Kashmir IGP

New Delhi: Inspector General of Police (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar clarified on Sunday that the order of district police officers to shift non-local laborers to the nearest police and army camps is fake, news agency ANI reported.

In the latest incident of civilian killings in Jammu and Kashmir in recent weeks, two more non-local laborers were shot dead by terrorists and another injured in Kulgam district on Sunday.

According to the agency’s report, a message was sent to the district police in the valley. However, as per the latest update, IGP Vijay Kumar has clarified the message as being fake.

Political leaders condemn civilian killings

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti condemned the repeated barbaric attacks on innocent civilians.

He tweeted, “There are not enough words to condemn the repeated barbaric attacks on innocent civilians. My heart goes out to their families as they leave the comforts of their homes to earn a respectable livelihood. This is a very sad thing.”

Jammu and Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Altaf Thakur said the killings were “nothing but pure genocide”.

“The gruesome killing of non-locals is nothing but inhuman and shows the desperation of the terrorists,” he said.

CPI(M) leader MY Tarigami, on his part, said that killing of innocent laborers who came here to earn their livelihood is a heinous crime.

“It is aimed at targeting the interests of the people of Kashmir and this is happening at a time when the harvesting season is at its peak,” he said.

Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had vowed to avenge every drop of his blood by hunting down terrorists and their sympathizers amid civilian killings.

Reiterating his commitment to the rapid development of the Union Territory, he said that efforts are being made to hinder the peace and socio-economic progress of Jammu and Kashmir and the personal development of the people.

“I extend my heartfelt tributes to the martyred citizens and condolences to the bereaved families. We will hunt down terrorists, their sympathizers and avenge every drop of blood of innocent civilians.

Referring to the killing of civilians by terrorists in the last 10 days in the Valley, he said, “We are committed to rapid development and will endeavor to create a prosperous and peaceful Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.”

Urging people to remember the security personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty, the Lieutenant Governor said: “When we light the Diwali lamp next month, let us light a lamp in the memory of the martyrs who served in the security forces. were involved. Earlier on Saturday, terrorists shot dead two non-locals in Srinagar and Pulwama districts. Arvind Kumar Sah, a resident of Banka in Bihar, was shot dead by militants outside a park in Idgah, Srinagar. In another incident, terrorists fired upon Sagir Ahmed, a carpenter from Uttar Pradesh in Pulwama district and was seriously injured.

Earlier, seven civilians, including four from minority communities, were killed by terrorists in Kashmir, triggering fear among the people of the Valley.
