J&K bans use, possession and transport of drones in Srinagar

Jammu: Following alleged drone attacks in Jammu and suspicious surveillance by terrorist organisations, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar district on July 4 banned the use and possession of drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles in the capital Srinagar.

This comes a week after two Indian Air Force personnel were injured in two drone-driven blasts at the technical airport in Jammu.

An order issued by Srinagar district magistrate Mohammad Ejaz said, “It is imperative to stop the use of drones in all social and cultural gatherings in order to secure air space near important installations and highly populated areas so as to avoid loss of life and damage.” to eliminate any risk of the property”.

This order has been issued under section 144 of CrPC. The order stated that decentralized air space access is to be regulated in view of the recent incidents of misuse of drones posing a threat to the security infrastructure as reported by the media and other credible sources.

“Furthermore, government departments using drones for mapping, surveying and monitoring in agriculture, environmental protection and disaster mitigation sector shall inform the local police station before undertaking any such activity in public interest,” it said.

Srinagar has become the second district in Jammu and Kashmir to ban the use and possession of drones. Earlier, the Rajouri administration had banned it in view of the Jammu attack.

Meanwhile, the J&K Police is roaming in the villages in the border areas and creating awareness among the villagers about drones.
