J&K: Amid killings of civilians, Centre to deploy 18 additional CRPF companies

Killing of Civilians: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will send additional 18 companies to Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the recent two terror attacks in Rajouri district in which civilians were killed. Sources gave this information. 18 companies of CRPF – about 1,800 personnel – will be sent to the Jammu region for deployment mainly in Poonch and Rajouri districts.

As per inputs, eight companies of CRPF will soon be deployed from nearby places of deployment in J&K while 10 companies of CRPF are being sent from Delhi. The move follows a recent order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs amid intelligence inputs about terror strikes in the Jammu region, the source said.

In the latest terror attack, two children were killed and several others injured after a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Upper Dangri village of Rajouri on Monday morning. ADGP Mukesh Singh alerted people as another suspected IED was spotted near Upper Dangri village, about eight km from Rajouri town.

Officials said the explosion occurred near the house where four civilians were killed and several others were injured in a shootout on Sunday evening. About a dozen people have been reported injured in two terror attacks carried out by terrorists since Sunday evening. The injured are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Jammu.

In the first attack, two heavily armed terrorists entered three houses at a distance of about 50 meters on Sunday evening and started firing indiscriminately. Four civilians were killed and six others were injured in the attack. This is the third incident of civilian killings in Rajouri district in the last two weeks after two people were killed outside an army camp on December 16.
