Jio-bp, Mahindra Group sign MoU on EV and low-carbon solutions

Mumbai: Reliance BP Mobility Limited (RBML), operating under the Jio-BP brand name, and Mahindra Group have identified synergies in low carbon and conventional fuels as well as exploring manufacturing of Electric Vehicle (EV) products and services. The MoU also includes evaluation of charging solutions by Jio-bp for Mahindra vehicles, including electric three- and four-wheelers, quadricycles and e-SCVs (Small Commercial Vehicles – Sub 4 Ton). This will include Mahindra Group’s captive fleet and last mile mobility vehicles.

The partnership aims to leverage the strengths of the two companies in the EV products and services space, the two companies said in a joint statement.

Mahindra Group and its channel partner locations will be evaluated for setting up Jio-BP mobility stations and EV charging and swapping points, in addition to utilizing existing Jio-BP stations.

Recently, Jio-bp launched its first mobility station in Maharashtra, offering multiple fuel options including EV charging infrastructure, providing world-class retailing experience.

Business models such as Mobility as a Service (MaaS) and Battery as a Service (BaaS) will also be explored, in which Jio-bp can provide charging solutions to vehicles made by Mahindra Group.

The EV market in India is still at an early stage and through this MoU, various possibilities and orientations of database, operations support systems, software, pilot, and commercial scale business models and types of charging and swapping facilities will be explored. is proposed and implemented subject to techno-economic feasibility and necessary approvals.

The partnership aims to accelerate EV adoption in India with high performance and swappable batteries that will help address range concerns.

The solutions will bring great convenience to the customers who can ideally bring the depleted battery to their nearest swapping station and go ahead with a fully charged battery by paying a nominal charge in a matter of minutes. Such innovative solutions will broaden the horizons for both the companies and help in faster realization of India’s net-zero emissions targets.
