Verdict in Jiah Khan suicide case will be pronounced today.
A Mumbai court is likely to pronounce its verdict on Friday, April 28, in Jiah Khan’s death case.
The news of Jiah Khan’s death in 2013 had left the entire entertainment fraternity in a state of shock. Her ex-boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi, son of actor Aditya Pancholi, was charged with abetment to suicide after a six-page letter by Jiah revealed that she had an abortion. “There was a time when I saw my life with you, a future with you. But you shattered my dreams. I feel dead inside. I have never given so much of myself or cared so much for anyone. You returned my love with deceit and lies.

2013
Jiah Khan was found dead on June 3, 2013 at her home in Juhu, Mumbai. A few weeks later, Sooraj Pancholi was booked for “abetment of suicide” based on a six-page letter recovered from Jiah Khan’s house, which was later released to the media. Jiah Khan’s mother Rabia, a key prosecution witness in the case, told the court that her daughter’s death was a murder, not a suicide. The post-mortem report stated the cause of death to be hanging without any conspiracy. In July, Sooraj Pancholi was granted bail, but was asked to submit his passport. Later, she too was acquitted of any involvement in Jiah Khan’s death. In October, Rabia pleaded with the court for a detailed CBI probe into the matter.
2014
Nearly a year later, in July, the court accepted Rabia’s plea asking the CBI to take over the investigation from the Mumbai Police. In the same month, Aditya Pancholi filed a Rs 100 crore defamation suit against Rabia.
2015
In the month of May, the CBI raided Suraj Pancholi’s house and a month later he was also called for questioning. In December, a supplementary charge sheet was filed against Sooraj Pancholi for abetting Khan’s suicide.
2016
In August, the CBI ruled out any possibility of murder while confirming hanging as the cause of Jiah Khan’s death. Just over a month later, Rabia hired Jason Payne-James, a British forensic expert, who alleged that the death had been “faked”. Aditya Pancholi contradicts the Payne-James conclusion.
2017
In February, the court dismissed Rabia’s plea against the CBI probe and her demand to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to handle the case. Rabia also wrote a letter to the Prime Minister in September Narendra Modi To get justice for his daughter. A month later, Sooraj Pancholi requested the Bombay High Court to expedite the trial.
2018
A special CBI court has dismissed the plea for further investigation against Sooraj Pancholi. Meanwhile, the actor has also broken his silence on the matter.
