Thunderstorm in Jharkhand: At least 12 people died in a tragic incident of lightning in different parts of Jharkhand in the last two days. According to officials, on Friday, May 27, a woman and her daughter were killed by lightning in Barwada area of ​​Dhanbad district, while two people died in Bahragora in Jamshedpur and Chirodih in Gumla district.

Meanwhile, one more death has been reported from Lohardaga. Earlier on Thursday (May 25) also seven people had died. One death each was reported from Chatra, Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Bokaro and Khunti districts and two people died in Hussainabad of Palamu.

Districts asked to verify casualties for compensation

An official of the State Disaster Management Department said that the concerned districts have been asked to verify the number of casualties for payment of compensation to the next of kin of those killed. The Jharkhand government gives four lakh rupees to the family of a person killed by lightning.

Strong winds and rain lashed the state for the last two days, uprooting trees and electric poles in several parts of the state. Jamshedpur recorded maximum rainfall of 79 mm on Friday. Bokaro recorded 52.4 mm and Ranchi 5.9 mm of rain.

Talking to the media, Abhishek Anand, in-charge of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, said that rain and lightning in Jharkhand are caused by two trough lines – one running across north Bihar to north Odisha across Jharkhand, while the other runs through Haryana. Huye goes up to Sikkim.
