Jharkhand: Landslide occurred at an underpass construction site near railway station in Dhanbad, four laborers died

Four people were killed on Tuesday night due to a landslide in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district. Dhanbad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) has given this information. SSP Dhanbad said that “four people were killed in a landslide at an underpass construction site near Pradhankhanta railway station in Dhanbad.”

During the rail underpass work near Kevin Sindri railway line west of Pradhankhanta railway station of Nabaliyapur area, four laborers were buried due to earth debris falling from above at around eight o’clock in the night. After the incident, there was panic among the workers. The workers started running here and there shouting. The bodies of the laborers buried under the rubble could not be retrieved till late in the night.

The laborers buried in the soil have been identified as 45-year-old Niranjan Mahato, 40-year-old Pappu Kumar Mahato, 30-year-old Vikram Kumar Mahato and 25-year-old Saurabh Kumar Dhiwar. No railway official was on the spot during the work. Even after being informed to the Balliapur police station, the police did not reach the spot till 10 pm. This has caused a lot of resentment among the people.

After the incident, the employees of the contractor, who were working on the work, fled from the spot. It is being told that the work of the railway underpass was being done by the contractor here for several days. Many laborers were working on Tuesday night as well. During this, a lot of soil debris fell from above and four laborers were buried. Some people say that more laborers are buried under the rubble of the soil. The concerned officers or personnel did not reach till late night to remove them.

Some trains had to be diverted or canceled
The PRO of Dhanbad Division of East Central Railway zone said that after the incident, the agitated workers along with the local people created a lot of ruckus and sat on a dharna on the railway line, due to which some trains had to be diverted/cancelled in the night. But till Wednesday morning the railway line was cleared. Train services were restored on this route (Pradhankhanta-Dhanbad-Gaya route) at 5:25 am, he said.
