Dhanbad/Ranchi: Police detained 243 suspects and arrested 17 people in connection with the death of Judge Uttam Anand in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand. Apart from this, 250 auto-rickshaws were also seized. A senior official gave this information on Monday.
Two police officers, including one, have also been suspended for making the CCTV footage of the incident public, he said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjeev Kumar said that 243 people have been detained after raids in various police station areas of the district on Sunday evening.
He said that he is being questioned.
“Police have also searched 53 hotels in the district and arrested 17 people in connection with the incident. FIRs have been registered against them in various police stations,” he said.
The official said that though the police recovered the autorickshaw that hit the judge during his morning walk, 250 autorickshaws with falsified documents were seized in a special operation.
Sources said that around 16,000 autorickshaws are registered with the transport department in Dhanbad.
Kumar said sub-inspector Adarsh ​​Kumar has been suspended for making the CCTV footage public.
Two days after the accident, Pathardih police station in-charge Umesh Manjhi was suspended on Saturday for registering an FIR of theft of an autorickshaw, he said.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren decided to hand over the investigation on Saturday CBI.
The Jharkhand government had set up a special investigation team to solve the judge’s death case, sparking outrage across the country.
Leaked CCTV footage shows that the judge was walking on one side of a very wide road at Randhir Verma Chowk on Wednesday morning when an auto rickshaw came towards him, hit him from behind and fled the spot.
On Thursday, the police arrested two people, auto-rickshaw driver Lakhan Verma and his assistant Rahul Verma in this case.
